On Saturday night a real snowstorm swept over the Tyrolean lowlands. In Ellmau, gusts of wind covered the roof of a house, and in the neighboring towns of Scheffau and Kufstein, trees were uprooted and fell onto the streets. Even more trees fell into the cables of the Kaiserlift in Kufstein.
A rude awakening for the residents of a house in Ellmau in the Tyrolean district of Kufstein. Around 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning, a snowstorm swept through the city. The gusts were so powerful that they simply tore off the roof of a farm and blew into an adjacent field. The residential building and an adjacent commercial wing were completely covered.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. However, the house is temporarily no longer habitable, the ‘Krone’ has learned from the Ellmau fire brigade. Efforts are now being made to find a temporary roof as quickly as possible so that residents can return to their homes in the winter.
Firefighters cleared the road due to danger
But the storm did not only rage in Ellmau: in the neighboring town of Scheffau, the gusts of wind uprooted several trees, which fell on the L207 Hintersteiner-See-Straße. The fire brigade had to remove the tree trunks. It was not a risk-free task, because the strong wind threatened to cause even more trees to fall on the emergency services. No one was injured, but the L207’s guardrail was damaged in several places.
Trees fell into the chairlift support cable
Greater damage occurred in the district capital Kufstein, where several trees fell in the Stadtberg-Weg area. Two of them were discovered because they were on the other side of the road. The fire brigade removed these logs.
At least ten more trees were discovered further into the forest, which had also been uprooted by the storm. According to police, two of them fell into the lift path of the Kaiserlift. The logs fell right into the support cable of the ancient single-seater chairlift, pushing it to the ground. It is not yet clear how these trees will be removed and how extensive the damage to the elevator will be.
