Seven vehicles were involved in a pile-up on the western A1 motorway in Upper Austria on Friday evening. The cause of the accident is still unknown. During the operation, the road was closed for more than two hours, which led to long traffic jams.
That the ‘tin salad’ on the western highway resulted in only six injuries is nothing short of a miracle. At around 5:30 p.m., two cars collided for unknown reasons on the highway in the Vorchdorf municipal area. Both vehicles were no longer roadworthy and therefore could not be driven onto the hard shoulder.
Nine people involved
Within a few minutes, five more cars crashed into each other, two ended up in the ditch and five came to a stop on the highway. Of the nine vehicle occupants involved, six people were slightly injured, four of whom were taken to hospital after initial medical treatment.
The western highway had to remain closed until shortly before 8 p.m., which led to longer traffic jams.
