A Tyrolean (24) was seriously injured by a shot from a fellow hunter in St. Johann im Saggautal in southern Styria on Sunday. The shooter didn’t see him, but he wasn’t sober either.
23 people took part in the hunt in the Untergreith district. During the last shot, around 12:15 p.m., a woodcock was flushed by a hunting dog. She flew from a forest to a rising meadow.
According to police, a 30-year-old visiting hunter targeted the animal and fired a shot from his shotgun. He met the bird – but also a 24-year-old fellow hunter, also from Tyrol. The victim was only 40 meters away, but was barely visible due to the edge of the site.
Not in danger to life
The 24-year-old suffered serious injuries to the face and chest and fell to the ground. The man was taken to LKH Graz by rescue helicopter, but doctors say his life is not in danger.
The hunt was of course immediately stopped. An on-site breathalyzer test on the shooter was positive.
