Also children among them: Syrian refugees who have been dragged to Carinthia

Date:

On Saturday morning, fourteen Syrian refugees, including children, were arrested by the police in Ferlach (Carinthia). They had previously been brought to Austria by a smuggler.

Near an inn in Ferlach, police officers noticed fourteen Syrian civilians on Saturday morning, including two children aged two and twelve. “They turned out to be refugees who had been illegally brought to Austria on Saturday night by a smuggler in a van,” state police headquarters said.

An international human trafficking ring is likely involved
That same evening, a 47-year-old Romanian man was stopped and arrested at the Loibltunnel border crossing. “The man is suspected of being a member of an international human trafficking ring,” investigators said. This gang is also said to have dragged the fourteen Syrians across the border to Austria. The Romanian is in custody and will be reported.
