Santa Claus, who traditionally brings Christmas presents in the US, would probably be jealous of the decorations in the White House in Washington DC. 98 Christmas trees, 142,425 lights, 22,100 bells and 33,892 baubles were installed on the White House grounds.
While many ordinary people make do with a Christmas tree, a Christmas wreath and a few candles as Advent decorations, the White House lets it rip every year.
300 volunteers helped decorate
First Lady Jill Biden on Monday officially unveiled this year’s Christmas decorations at U.S. government headquarters, which staff and more than 300 volunteers from across the country spent a week working on.
On the White House grounds, 98 Christmas trees were distributed, 142,425 lights were installed and 2.8 miles of ribbon were made into bows and other decorations. 22,100 bells and 33,892 Christmas baubles decorate the official residence of US President Joe Biden.
This year’s motto: “Magic, Miracles and Joy”
Every year, 72 wreaths hang from the windows of the White House. A large gingerbread version of the building is also returning, this time for which the makers used more than 13 kilograms of chocolate and almost 23 kilograms of icing. The theme this year: “Magic, Wonder and Joy” of the holidays.
100,000 visitors expected
Visitors will be able to tour the White House to view the decorations in the coming weeks. Jill Biden said a total of more than 100,000 visitors are expected this year.
