So far the winter in Carinthia has not been particularly white. The mountains in Upper Carinthia were already lucky, but now the snow has also reached Lower Carinthia. However, the weather forecasts for the coming days are difficult.
Early risers may have noticed: snow fell from the sky on Tuesday morning. “But the crowd was limited,” noted a UBIMET meteorologist. There was five to ten centimeters of fresh snow, especially in the north, in the Tauern area and in the Flattnitz area, but the white snow blanket only persists at higher altitudes.
The mountains of Lower Carinthia are also happy with it. Because while the mountain peaks in Upper Carinthia shone white for the first time in October, ski areas such as the Petzen and the Koralm had to wait until now. Even the snow cannons have now been switched on there.
Weather experts also expect new snow by the end of the week: “Thursday morning will bring a new layer of snow from the west,” said a meteorologist. It is expected to snow lightly in Carinthia: “Especially in Lower Carinthia, snow will mix with rain in the lower parts.”
Upper Carinthia can look forward to up to 40 centimeters of fresh snow from Thursday to Friday. “It is still very uncertain where exactly the snow and rain limits are!”
