A tragic case of mistaken identity took the life of a brave citizen during the terrorist attack in Jerusalem. The 37-year-old jumped out of the car and shot at the terrorists. Israeli soldiers mistook him for one of the attackers and shot Yuval Doron Castleman.
The attack, which Hamas claimed as its own, killed four Israelis and wounded five; the terrorists were also killed. Tragically, one civilian was among those killed who courageously intervened during the attack and shot at the attackers.
The two Palestinian terrorists opened fire at a bus stop and tried to return to their car. Two off-duty soldiers who had spent a few days at home during the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and were on their way to the front at that time, took action against the attackers. In another video shared on social media, Castleman is seen on the ground with his hands raised. When he tried to get up, the soldiers shot him again. According to the Times of Israel, the victim of the confusion shouted, “Don’t shoot, don’t shoot!”
Castleman was taken to hospital, where doctors quickly lost the fight for his life and had to pronounce him dead. One of the victims shot by the terrorists was in critical condition after the incident.
Hamas praises “jihad martyrs”
Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack a short time later. This was a “natural response to the unprecedented crimes committed by the occupiers (Israel, note) in the Gaza Strip and against children in Jenin (the West Bank, note).” The two perpetrators were glorified as ‘jihad martyrs’.
