Attention road users: in northern Styria alone, up to 60 centimeters of fresh snow will fall from the sky in the coming hours. It won’t be white in Graz until Saturday.
The amount of precipitation was still limited on Friday evening: around 8 p.m. one liter per square meter was recorded in the Ennstal.
The snowfall will continue through Sunday
This is likely to change noticeably in the coming hours: “We expect really heavy snow with deep winter conditions in the northern half of the country,” says Ubimet meteorologist Steffen Dietz when asked about “Krone”. Heavy rainfall can be expected, especially along the northern ridge of the Alps.
A forecast that will remain valid throughout the weekend: “By Saturday alone there could be 60 centimeters of fresh snow in Ramsau, but 50 centimeters will also fall in the Ausseerland and the rest of the Ennstal,” said the expert.
Up to minus 18 degrees
In the south, on the other hand, there is only a good chance that snow will fall; snowfall in the Styrian capital, for example, would only be expected from Saturday around 7 a.m. – Dietz: “But it can only be a few centimeters; I think it is unlikely that the snow will remain on the wet ground.”
After the snowfall, which is expected to end across the country on Sunday evening, a period of frost is in the offing: “On Monday night it could be minus 18 degrees in Gröbming, minus 17 is predicted for Zeltweg,” says Diez.
Temperatures of minus ten degrees are also expected in the southern parts of the country and in Graz.
