Amazon founder Jeff Bezos had the 127-meter-long ship built to become the second largest sailing yacht in the world. But now the multi-billionaire is faced with unusual problems: the ship cannot find space in the port even in the land of superlatives.
Bezos had to wait five years before he could finally drop anchor with the “Koru,” and in May he finally received it in person. During the warm summer months, the ship with crew and owner strolled around the Mediterranean Sea, before going to the United States in early November, where the sailing yacht also arrived safely last week.
Giant yacht next to gigantic cargo ships
As the industry portal “Luxurylaunches” reported, not everything is going according to plan. Instead of finding a place next to impressive yachts such as Steven Spielberg’s “Man of Steel” or Herb Chambers’ futuristic superyacht “Excellence”, the “Koru” is now anchored next to other maritime giants – namely the oil tanker “Hafnia Kallang”. ” and “STI Texas City”.
She moored there because of her size and also because of the available berths in the seaport, a Port Everglades spokeswoman told the New York Times. To get to his ship, the billionaire now has to use his ‘dinghy’, the ‘Abeona’. This usually travels together with the “Koru” and transports everything that does not fit on board the sailing ship – whether it is a helicopter, numerous watercraft or parts of the crew and even guests.
The ship is already causing a stir
In the Maori language of New Zealand, ‘Koru’ refers to a spreading leaf of the silver fern. The internet entrepreneur’s sailing yacht made headlines last year: The shipyard wanted to partially dismantle a historic bridge so that the ship with its gigantic masts could pass. After protests, the shipbuilder withdrew the application. The yacht was pulled under the bridge without masts.
