In the new edition of the trial involving two acquaintances of the Viennese attacker, one of the two men surprised people with his current job. The 23-year-old, who was convicted of being a terrorist organization, is currently doing community service. And above all, he works for refugee aid.
Two acquaintances of the Viennese attacker were again in court, no longer for complicity in murder – of which they were legally acquitted – but for terrorist association. They were in the same chat group with him that shared Salafist content.
The initial verdict from the terror trial (partly conditional for 24 months each) was annulled by the OGH due to formal errors. Now it is partially conditional for 18 or 21 months. The 24-year-old and the 23-year-old have already served the mandatory portion in custody.
Visited the Viennese attacker on the day of the crime
“I am a civil servant. In the refugee service,” surprises the younger man during the second legal trial in Landl. He visited the Viennese attacker at his apartment on the afternoon of the day of the crime on November 2, 2020 to bring him back a book.
In concrete terms, he now works in a refugee advice center of Diakonie Austria in Vienna. According to the APA, they knew nothing about his previous proximity to IS. But: “People are very happy with him and praise him enormously.” The 23-year-old has not yet promoted Islam, nor has he been directly involved in working with refugees: “He sits at the reception,” says a spokeswoman for Diakonie.
