Daughter wants to warn – persuade: “My mom hasn’t been seen!”

Date:

A 74-year-old was run over and killed in the dark. Her daughter now wants to warn and prevent such accidents.

There is great sadness in the voice of well-known paragliding instructor Maggie Grabner when she talks about an accident in which her mother (74) suddenly became the victim.

It has been a year since Dani Rasser, a Carinthian artist with Slovenian roots, was torn from life in Klagenfurt. “My mother went shopping. When she crossed the Südring at Schmelzhüttenstrasse, she was run over by a motorist,” says Maggie.

In wet snow and darkness
“It was dark – and the wet snow made the ground markings almost invisible. My mother was wearing dark shoes, green trousers and a yellow jacket, but she could not be seen in the low beam.”

Family and friends gathered at the scene of the accident on the first anniversary of his death to erect a small cross. “I can’t get my mother back, but I can raise awareness so that accidents like this don’t happen again.

Because many pedestrians believe they are seen by motorists. But that is not true. In the dark season, reflectors on clothing can help guarantee visibility and therefore safety,” advises Maggie. This is also confirmed by figures from the Road Safety Board (KFV), which show that most pedestrian accidents occur from October to January, as they are often overlooked by motorists.
