Drama in the Innviertel! Two workers were busy cleaning up the damage caused by heavy snowfall in recent days. A 33-year-old from Salzburg wanted to cut down a tree that had fallen on the street, with fatal consequences.

The terrible forestry accident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on Tuesday in Gilgenberg, Braunau district. A 33-year-old and a 24-year-old, both from Salzburg, worked together in recent days to clear the forest damage.

The 33-year-old wanted to use a chainsaw to clear an uprooted tree that had fallen from a slope over the local road that passed by it.

The rootstock fell over
He stood at the side of the tree and wanted to cut the rhizome from the trunk. The rootstock fell back to the ground, burying the worker beneath itself. The 24-year-old noticed the accident and immediately tried to remove the slipped rootstock with the tractor crane to free the 33-year-old.

He also immediately set the rescue chain in motion. Tragically, the man died at the scene of the accident from his serious injuries.
