After the devastating fire in Vienna-Floridsdorf on Monday morning, the police are now investigating possible arson.
The fire brigade was alerted around 10.15 am on Monday due to a large fire in the sales areas of the store. A large contingent of emergency services immediately responded to bring the fire under control.
Firefighter injured
The discounter’s customers were able to get to safety in time. A firefighter was injured during the operation.
It was initially unclear why the fire broke out. The police now believe that there was intent. The Vienna State Police announced this on Tuesday morning.
Investigations are underway
Experts from the State Criminal Investigation Department and the Federal Criminal Investigation Department have already started the investigation. “Because of the exclusion principle, we have to assume arson,” said spokeswoman Barbara Gass.
