Bavaria and Lower Austria as role models – How gender now divides Austrian parties

Date:

Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder ‘follows’ the decree of the black-blue state government in Lower Austria and also introduces a gender ban. The FPÖ sees its course confirmed, but the current federal government has no chance of national implementation. In any case, the discussion has flared up again.

The largest federal state in Austria and Germany in terms of area share not only a national color, but also a reputation for pursuing similar conservative policies – and of course rightly so. In his first government statement in the new legislature, Markus Söder, the recently re-elected Prime Minister of the Free State, announced that gender would be banned in schools and in administration. In terms of content, Söder is based on the recommendations of the German Spelling Council and politics on black and blue in Lower Austria. For State Vice President Udo Landbauer, Bayern’s initiative shows: “It doesn’t matter whether blue-yellow or blue-white blue works.”
