14 residents evacuated – car fire in underground parking caused major emergency

Date:

More than 100 firefighters were present in St. Jakob in Haus (Tyrolean district of Kitzbühel) on Thursday morning, probably as a result of a fire in a car. Fortunately, everyone in the house was able to get out unharmed.

A deployment of more than 100 Florianis from the Pillerseetal provided more than just a shock on Thursday. Around 4:30 am the sirens sounded in St. Jakob in Haus. The reason: a vehicle fire in the underground parking garage of a multi-unit residential building.

Hybrid cars had to be treated separately
It soon became clear to Ernst Waltl, commander of the FF St. Jakob, that this fire was a major problem. The Pillerseetal section was immediately warned. “First we had to open the garage and we were able to do that with the large fan. “We were then able to fight the flames with a total of sixteen respiratory protection teams,” he says.

Around 6 a.m. the fire was finally reported as being out. The operation was not completely ended until the afternoon. The reason for this was two hybrid cars, which only after that could be taken out of the garage and taken to the appropriate storage.

Residents were evacuated as a precaution
The fire was probably caused by a fire in one of the cars. Three cars were destroyed by flames and are total losses. There was hardly any damage to the house, according to Waltl: “However, the residents cannot move in because the sewer pipes in the underground parking garage are damaged.” Fortunately, no one was injured; the rescue team evacuated the 14 residents on time.
