The massive mold infestation in a municipal kindergarten in Villach is currently causing a lot of excitement. There are even fears that other buildings may also be contaminated with harmful spores.
There was a nasty surprise at the kindergarten in the Völkendorf district of Villach: while repairing water damage, mold was discovered on the walls in some rooms of the care facility. “We immediately contacted the city health department. The experts found that there was no danger to children or employees,” said Deputy Mayor Sarah Katholnig.
The affected rooms were closed
As a precaution, all affected rooms were closed. However, care for the approximately one hundred children must remain guaranteed: “We have to be creative for the next three months.”
Health first
Given these circumstances, parents are concerned about the children and staff. There are also fears that similar problems could occur at other schools and kindergartens in the city. Councilor Christian Pober therefore calls for an extensive and thorough investigation. “The health of our children must come first,” Pober said. In the meantime, the deputy mayor reassures: “There are no reports of any contamination from the other city facilities.”
