Kidnapped from kibbutz – attempted liberation failed: hostage killed in Gaza

Date:

A kidnapped hostage was killed during a failed Israeli army operation in the Gaza Strip. The family confirmed the Israeli’s death. “It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce that Sahar Baruch has been killed,” the Forum of Hostage Families and Kibbutz Beeri said on Saturday.

A brother of the 25-year-old man was killed in the major attack by the radical Islamic group Hamas on Israel on October 7. The kibbutz, a few kilometers from the Gaza Strip, was the scene of one of the worst massacres carried out by Hamas and its allies during their attack on Israel on October 7. In Beeri alone, 80 of the 1,110 residents were killed, and many others were deported to the Gaza Strip, including Sahar Baruch.

Army admits failed operation
The Israeli army admitted on Friday that it had failed in an operation to free hostages. Two soldiers were seriously injured and “numerous terrorists were killed,” but no hostages were released. The military made no comment on their fate.

Hamas: Man “declared dead”
Hamas’ armed wing said it had foiled an Israeli attempt to free “an Israeli prisoner.” He was “declared dead”. The statement was accompanied by a video showing the hostage’s body. The authenticity of the recordings has not yet been verified.

Hundreds of fighters from Hamas, classified as a terrorist organization by the US and EU, entered Israel from the Gaza Strip on October 7 and committed atrocities, mainly against civilians, including many women and children. According to Israeli authorities, 1,200 people were killed and about 240 others taken hostage in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli army subsequently declared war on the radical Islamic group Hamas in the Gaza Strip. According to Hamas figures, which cannot be independently verified, their air and ground strikes have killed nearly 17,500 people in the Palestinian territory, most of whom are women and children.

German family murdered in Gaza
According to the German federal government, German citizens apparently were also among the dead. “Unfortunately, at this time we have to assume that there is a German family among the victims of the fighting in Gaza,” the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

The “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, citing relatives and friends, reported that a German family of six was killed on October 25 in an Israeli bomb attack at their home in Gaza.
