On Monday evening, an Advent wreath caused a complete fire in an apartment in Vienna-Landstrasse. An alert neighbor noticed the fire and immediately alerted the emergency services.
According to Christian Feiler, spokesman for the Vienna Fire Department, the operation started around 9 p.m. The fire broke out on the fourth floor of the building on Fred-Zinnemann-Platz.
Large contingent of emergency services
16 vehicles and 65 emergency services responded. The apartment owner had already fled with her two children. She received emergency medical care from the special operations group of the Vienna Professional Rescue Service and was taken to hospital with suspected smoke poisoning.
Fire quickly under control
The fire had already spread to curtains, armchairs, boxes and a sofa. The fire brigade quickly had the flames under control with the help of an extinguishing line.
The investigation by police fire investigators coincided with the fire brigade’s initial suspicion. The Advent wreath lit the fire. “This incident shows how quickly an accident can happen! “Never leave burning candles unattended,” advised fire chief Christian Feiler.
