Humid summer days in May already cause severe thunderstorms! On Tuesday evening, the fire brigades of Styria had to turn out more than 150 times, especially in the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag and Hartberg-Fürstenfeld districts: in Turnau, for example, numerous cellars were flooded, in Kapfenberg an underground parking garage.
Basements flooded, streets flooded, roofs covered, trees on the street. There were many reports for the fire brigade in Styria on Tuesday evening due to thunderstorms, hail and heavy rain. According to the National Fire Service Association, 105 fire brigades had to deal with 153 missions from approximately 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
In Turnau, the Florianis had to move 30 people to help with flooded basements and clogged sewers; farmers also supported with tractors. A total of 20 locations were affected.
Kapfenberg underground parking garage was flooded
All seven fire brigades were also deployed in Kapfenberg, partly because an underground parking garage was flooded. The emergency services were also called to a flooded supermarket and cellars, some roofs were also covered and streets were flooded.
In Hartberg, on the other hand, a driveway of the highway was flooded. Here too, the fire brigade had to turn out.
