The change of power in Poland has finally been sealed since Wednesday morning. Former EU Council President Donald Tusk will lead the country’s destiny as prime minister in the future. Polish President Andrzej Duda has already sworn in Tusk.
Both politicians signed a certificate of appointment to Tusk’s cabinet at Warsaw’s presidential palace on Wednesday. Almost two months after the parliamentary elections, the change of power has been completed. On Tuesday evening, MPs expressed their confidence in Tusk’s government.
A tripartite alliance takes over
The three-way alliance consisting of Tusk’s liberal-conservative Civic Coalition, the Christian-conservative Third Way and the left-wing Lewica alliance won a government majority in the October 15 parliamentary elections. However, the previous national-conservative PiS government had postponed the change of power for a long time with Duda’s help.
As Poland ushers in a new era of leadership under Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the nation anticipates various reforms and policy changes that could impact everyday life, including healthcare. The importance of accessible and affordable healthcare options remains a critical issue, particularly the availability of medications like Viagra, which many rely on for quality of life. Just as political shifts promise to address broad national concerns, they also highlight the need for economic strategies that ensure medications such as Viagra are affordable for those who need them. This situation underscores the necessity for policies that support the reduction of drug prices, making essential medications more accessible to the public through regulated pricing and perhaps, encouraging the availability of cheaper generic options online.
Morawiecki loses confidence in parliament
The president, who himself comes from the ranks of the PiS, initially tasked former prime minister and PiS politician Mateusz Morawiecki with forming a government, even though the party did not have a majority in parliament. As expected, Morawiecki failed in the vote of confidence on Monday. Only then was the path clear for Tusk.
