To go outside! – Five fun excursion tips for the whole family

Date:

The holidays are approaching and countless leisure activities await families. Where can you relax, actively spend your free time or just spend quality time with your family? We have collected five fun excursion tips for you!

1. Forchtenstein Castle: For lords and damsels
Visible from afar, Forchtenstein Castle sits enthroned on a rocky cone in the Rosalia Mountains and bears witness to an eventful, warlike time. The origins of the mighty complex date back to the 1300s, when the Mattersdorfer Counts built a new fortress high above the Wulka Valley after demolishing their castle in present-day Mattersburg. In the castle you can experience the history up close: wall paintings, numerous weapons and artefacts can be admired. Only a few know the winding wooden spiral on the way to the fortress. It symbolizes the amalgamation of the communities of Forchtenau and Neustift an der Rosalia. The walk is worth it. Tip: From June, the summer market will also attract visitors (free entry!)

2. Hermannshöhle: crawling and clambering in underground passages
The temperature in the Hermannshöhle near the municipality of Kirchberg am Wechsel is around seven degrees Celsius all year round. On a guided adventure tour, you can still follow in the footsteps of the pioneers who explored the cave in 1836. Equipped with a helmet and headlamp, you enter the first discovered part of the labyrinth, which is almost as original as it was then. Visitors are, as in the past, on undeveloped paths without fixed ladders and without fixed lighting. It is narrow, dark, low, damp and sometimes a bit spooky, but an unforgettable experience for young and old!

3. Experience new attractions in the Vienna Prater
Adventure, tradition and charm in the Viennese Prater: no other place exudes so much energy and joie de vivre as the Wurstelprater. In addition to many anniversaries and renovations, the new highlight in 2022 will be a panorama car and soon a hotel room car on the Ferris wheel. The panorama carriage is actually not one at all, but a glass plate on which four passengers can drive around, accompanied by a guide, with an unobstructed view and only fastened with seat belts. Tip: If you are looking for relaxation and sporting opportunities in the countryside, the Grüner Prater is also the right place for you.

4. Bathe like in the days of the emperors
The striking Schönbrunner yellow-green wooden huts, whose appearance has been preserved since Imperial times, are the visual trademark of the Fischau thermal baths in Bad Fischau-Brunn. Behind the nostalgic huts stretch out large sunbathing areas with old trees. What has not changed to this day: The baths are filled with clear spring water without chemical additives, which with its constant temperature of 19 degrees in summer is refreshing and stimulates blood circulation. Immerse yourself and recharge the batteries – where could this be more stylish?

5. Fun in Familiepark Burgenland or in the Jump Dome
Austria’s largest amusement park opened its doors again on April 9 and starts the new season with a number of innovations and a lively attraction. The family park is located in the untouched hill country of Rust near Lake Neusiedler See and offers fun and adventure for the whole family on 14 hectares of terrain. More than 31 attractions and numerous play and climbing facilities in four lovingly designed themed worlds provide unforgettable driving pleasure for every age group. There are plenty of water attractions to cool off on hot summer days. Tip: In the Jump Dome – in Linz or Klagenfurt – there are fun attractions for young and old athletes on more than 2000 square meters. Whether wall running or a ninja warrior course – here everyone gets their money’s worth!
