New and radical solutions for the ‘crown’ of the future have now been sought – and found – during the first ‘Hackathon – The Crown’. “We are impressed,” Krone Managing Director Gerhard Valeskini aptly summarized on Wednesday evening at the closing event in Vienna, before editor Dr. Christoph Dichand presented the proud winning team with 3,000 euros in prize money.
Everyone who took part in our first “Hackathon – The Crown” in Vienna had the opportunity to answer the most burning questions about the future of media together with other students, pupils and young professionals from different fields and disciplines. Until Wednesday, several dozen young and talented people sat together in Square One’s co-working space to shape ideas for the transformation of the “Krone”.
Within a very short time (48 hours) the team had to develop a prototype, code, concept or business model for an innovative solution. The participants were supported on site by experts and mentors – with the presentation of a pitch and other problem areas. Our media professionals from “Krone” also provided exciting insights into the journalistic world of “Krone” during the hackathon.
“Very impressed by the many good ideas”
On Wednesday evening the time had finally come and the 6 teams presented their solutions for the media industry of the future in timed pitches. The members of the expert jury, “Krone” editor Dr. Christoph Dichand, managing director of “Krone” Gerhard Valeskini, KronePlus boss Michael Pichler and editor-in-chief of Horizont Austria Jürgen Hofer and the managing director of media publisher Oberauer, Johann Oberauer, were “very impressed by the many good ideas,” as Gerhard Valeskini got to the point.
From Monday to Wednesday there were good discussions in a good atmosphere and there was “a lot of positive feedback”, said the director of “Krone”, pleased with the successful premiere of “Hackathon – The Crown”. Dr Dichand spoke of a “very close result” because in all six projects presented there was actually something worth developing further.
The winning team certainly wants to continue the project
After presenting all contributions, our expert jury selected the best contribution and the editor “Krone” awarded it with 3,000 euros! The winners of the “Kronews” team thanked them for the professional organization, were of course very happy with the first place and immediately announced that they would definitely continue their winning project. “We hope for a good collaboration with the ‘Krone’ in the future and are curious to see what will come of it.”
But even the teams that didn’t make it to first place didn’t leave “Hackathon – The Crown” empty-handed. The second or third placed teams also received a prize of 2,000 or 1,000 euros. And because good ideas and hard work should not go unrewarded, the other participants also received 150 euros each.
Beautiful concepts were created in these 3 days
“Beautiful concepts were created during these 3 days, guided by mentors who provided professional input and feedback. Digital tools and technologies were integrated, new apps were programmed, future strategies to reach young target groups were developed and new business models were discussed.” Helga Pattart, Managing Director at Techhouse, was also happy with the successful premiere of the innovation format.
As a point of contact for successful corporates and startups who are genuinely interested in the implementation of sustainable innovation, Techhouse has designed “Hackathon – The Crown” together with the “Krone”. „With the ‘Hackathon – The Crown’ we were able to prove that these types of innovation formats deliver new and radical solutions for companies and encourage young talent to contribute their ideas,” concludes Pattart.
