A terrible traffic accident occurred in the neighboring Swiss canton of Graubünden on Saturday. On the north-south A13 junction near the San Bernardino Pass, a German VW bus and an Italian VW Golf collided head-on for unknown reasons. One person died on the spot.
At around 11.40 am, the operational control center of the Graubünden cantonal police received a report of a head-on collision on the A13 motorway – which is also very popular with Vorarlbergers on their way to their holidays in Italy. For reasons still unclear, a violent head-on collision took place between two foreign cars in the Ponte Isola area.
Two other occupants in critical condition
One person died at the scene of the collision. Two others received emergency medical attention at the scene from the REGA air rescue team and were then flown in critical condition to the Civico Hospital in Lugano or to the Cantonal Hospital of Chur.
Three-hour suspension after crash
The vehicles involved are a VW bus with German license plate and an Italian VW Golf. The usually busy A13 had to be closed to all traffic for the rescue and clean-up work.
The Graubünden cantonal police requests anyone with information about the accident to contact the SUD traffic center (San Bernardino), telephone +41 (0) 91 822 85 00.
