The damage to the Israeli flag hoisted in front of Graz Castle caused outrage. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counter-Terrorism was involved in the investigation. Now the perpetrator has turned himself in. Motive: general dissatisfaction with politics, “pushed” by alcohol.
The flag had a burn hole caused by a cigarette and damage to the hanging. The State Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Combating Terrorism conducted the investigation and the case received media attention.
The report may have been one of the reasons why the perpetrator turned himself in: a 27-year-old man from Graz appeared at the Schmiedgasse police station and stated that he had committed the crime. He was interrogated and made a full confession.
His motive: general dissatisfaction with the Austrian position in the conflict in the Middle East – coupled with large amounts of alcohol. The man was reported on suspicion of damaging property and disparaging the symbols of others.
