In these regions, the flood warning level has been raised to yellow. In the course of the afternoon the situation calmed down. However, the severe storms have left their marks in Styria.

Murau district especially affected
The emergency services in the Murau district in particular had a hard time. “As early as Tuesday, the storm has knocked down countless trees and damaged homes. The roof of a house was even partially covered,” said Walter Horn of the region’s fire brigade. Dozens of fire brigades were deployed. There were several landslides in Stadl, as well as mudslides and flooded basements throughout the district. The Florianis tried to prevent worse with sandbags.

In the neighboring Tamsweg district, the alarm was even raised and the population was asked not to leave their houses and apartments. A fire truck crashed in Ramingstein – six comrades were injured. In addition, part of the Murtalbahn was buried.

Tree fell on chapel
The fire brigade in the Liezen district also registered a number of operations. In the Schladming region and in the Paltental, several streams overflowed their banks and cellars had to be drained. There was also flooding in Liezen. In addition, trees fell in Gröbming. “In Aigen, a tree fell on the Vorberg Chapel in the morning,” Christoph Schlüßlmayr reported.

In the evening things became precarious again in many parts of Styria, a thunderstorm front stretched from the north over the area of Graz to the south. More damage is to be feared. Thursday should be a lot nicer again. It’s drying up across the state, and in the south, the thermometer is rising to 32 degrees.
