Last night Russia again attacked Ukrainian cities. The capital Kiev was also hit and has now recorded its fifth Russian attack this month. Meanwhile, fears that Moscow will use chemical weapons are increasing.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (Ukrainian Державна служба України) reported one of the largest attacks in the Kherson region. Both in the city of the same name and in the surrounding area, critical infrastructure objects, a school, a post office, a warehouse and a residential building came under fire.
Six vehicles caught fire on the company premises. During the firefighting efforts, Ukrainian firefighters had to seek shelter several times as the feared Russian army continued its attacks. At least nine people were injured, including four children, Kherson Mayor Roman Mrochko announced on the online service Telegram.
Shahed’s combat drones have hit Kiev
From Kiev, the head of the military government, Serhiy Popko, said several Iranian-made Shahed combat drones had been intercepted by air defenses. According to initial findings, there were no casualties or damage in the capital, he explained on Telegram. The attack was carried out from the Black Sea.
According to the Ukrainian military, a total of 19 Shahed drones were fired from the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula, of which 18 were destroyed.
Scary images from Kharkov
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported at least two strikes near residential buildings. A transport depot that had already been destroyed in previous Russian attacks was hit, he wrote on Telegram. He gave no information about possible victims. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the missiles were S300 surface-to-air missiles fired from the Russian border region of Belgorod.
Fear of the use of chemical weapons
Moscow has intensified its nightly attacks on Ukrainian cities in recent weeks. Since the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression, there have been concerns that Russia could also use chemical weapons in Ukraine. Now Ukrainian soldiers from the front have told American television channel CNN that a corrosive and flammable gas from drones has been dropped on Ukrainian lines in recent weeks.
The broadcaster also cited information from a Secret Service employee and a paramedic. The Russians apparently used the gas to spread panic among Ukrainian soldiers before firing on them, they said. The information could not initially be independently verified.
