The UN Security Council on Friday approved a resolution to try to boost the shipment of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, after a week of intensive negotiations.

The initiative, presented by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), had to be rewritten several times due to objections from the United States, which has veto power in the organization. Washington ultimately abstained, as did Russia.

The text asks the UN Secretary General to appoint a special coordinator to monitor and verify the shipment of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territory.

Risk of famine and 893,000 Gazan children forcibly displaced

The European Union in particular warned this Friday about the risk of famine in Gaza. In a joint statement, the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, and the Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarcic, express their “dismay” at the evaluation of the Integrated Food Safety Classification (IPC), estimating that 100% of the Gaza population suffers from “acute food insecurity, while a quarter of the population faces catastrophic hunger and starvation.”

In addition, the Director General of the Gaza Ministry of Health, Munir al Burshwas injured in a bomb attack on his home in the city of Jabalia, an attack that resulted in the deaths of 16 members of his family, including his daughter, according to the Palestinian newspaper. Filastine.

On the other hand, Palestinian authorities today accused Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of “demonizing” the Palestinian Authority to “facilitate Israel’s annexation.” West Bank“and to ‘separate’ it from the Gaza Strip in an attempt to ‘undermine the two-state solution’.
