Driver (25) injured – couple’s car hit by Mure and pushed against tree

A Hungarian couple in the Tyrolean lowlands was shocked on Saturday evening: their car was hit by a mudslide in Reith im Alpbachtal (Kufstein district) and pushed off the road. The driver (25) was injured.

The mudslide occurred around 11 p.m. due to heavy rain. The L5 Alpbacher Straße in the municipality of Reith was cleared of debris, mud and trees over a length of approximately 15 meters.

Car pushed into tree
A 25-year-old driver and his passenger (21) were literally in the wrong place at the wrong time: “The two Hungarians’ car was hit by the mudslide and literally pushed off the road. Ultimately, the vehicle was pushed into a tree approximately four meters below the road,” police said.

Driver slightly injured, car totaled
The driver suffered minor injuries, but the young woman escaped in shock. The volunteer fire brigade of Reith im Alpbachtal and the road maintenance service of Wörgl removed the mudflow from the L5 and secured the road with concrete protective walls.

The road was open to traffic again around 2 a.m. The Hungarian’s car was totaled.
