A ghost truck ride on the Pyhrnautbahn in Upper Austria cost a 42-year-old Uzbek his driver’s license on Saturday. Despite oncoming traffic, he drove through two tunnels as a wrong-way driver before having to stop again due to traffic.
A 42-year-old Uzbek citizen was driving his truck on the A9 Pyhrnautobahn towards Wels around 6 a.m. on Saturday. Due to storm damage, the A9 towards Wels was closed between the Klaus and Inzersdorf junctions and car traffic was routed via the B138. The 42-year-old therefore drove into Klaus on the A9.
Heard on navigation system
However, he followed the instructions on his navigation system and returned to the A9 via the Klaus junction. He ignored the red light signals on the platform area. However, he stopped in front of the so-called Hungerbicheltunnel because of the red light. He then switched to the opposite lane via a diversion in this area and drove his truck against the direction of travel in the left lane and despite oncoming traffic through the Hungerbichel and Kienberg tunnels.
Carelessly endangering the public
Due to the tunnel closures that were immediately implemented, the driver also had to stop his vehicle because vehicles stopped. The man’s driver’s license was temporarily confiscated and a bond was requested. He is also reported to the Steyr Public Prosecutor’s Office for negligently endangering the public.
