From Vienna to Carinthia – Long road to Christmas Eve: train canceled again

Date:

Three weeks ago, two Carinthian women who work in Vienna bought the tickets. Saturday at 9:24 am we would go home to celebrate Christmas with loved ones. But the train couldn’t run as planned…

Train 15735 with the scheduled departure at 9:24 am from Vienna to Klagenfurt is not running: locomotive damage! “Unfortunately, this can happen despite ongoing maintenance. Nowadays it is particularly unfavorable. These are now tough travel days,” said ÖBB press spokesman Herbert Hofer.

No replacement trains
All available vehicles are already on the rails and no replacement trains are currently running. The next train did not leave until 10:24 am, although it was also late because the storm had a huge impact there too.

Not enough seats
The delayed train must have room for everyone from the earlier train at 10:24 a.m. because capacity has already been increased, Hofer said. “We asked customer service. However, there are no more seats on the train. There is a bus connection: with a travel time of seven hours. The train takes more than four hours,” the Carinthian woman told “Krone”.

According to the ÖBB spokesperson, no separate rail replacement service is planned. “We are now looking at whether we can take a seat on the later train or whether we have to take the bus. Everything is open,” says the Carinthian woman, who wanders through the train station with countless passengers and wants only one thing: to go home to celebrate Christmas with her family.

Standing in the aisle
The waiting passengers could finally board the next train to Carinthia. However, without a seat and standing in the middle of the aisle. Our two Carinthian women later found seats on the train to Linz. From there we went home by car…
