Dramatic incident late Saturday evening in the Tyrolean Oberland: a 16-year-old boy entered a frozen pond in Imst and collapsed. His brother immediately raised the alarm. The teen was eventually rescued. He got off lightly.
The two brothers were playing football in a parking lot in Imst around 10:30 PM when the ball suddenly accidentally ended up on the frozen pond.
The ice gave way – 16 year old fell into the water
“The 16-year-old then wanted to grab the ball. “He stepped on the ice and collapsed,” police said. The teenager was able to get out of the icy water or onto the ice under his own power, but was unable to get back to land.
Recovered from hypothermia but unharmed
His 17-year-old brother eventually called 911. The fire brigade, rescue service, water rescue service and police who were notified were eventually able to rescue the boy. He suffered from hypothermia, but fortunately survived the incident unharmed.
