Bad surprise when a couple came home to Kremsmünster (Upper Austria) on Christmas Eve: Because they forgot to put out the candles on the Advent wreath, it caught fire. The dining table also burned out and three fire brigades had to be called.
The couple left their single-family home in Kremsmünster on Sunday around 4:30 p.m. As it turned out: without extinguishing the candles on the Advent wreath at the dining table.
There was probably some part of the Christmas happiness that didn’t happen anymore. It was only five hours later that the two residents returned home and immediately alerted the fire brigade because they noticed heavy smoke.
One hour operation
The Advent wreath had caught fire and the dining table beneath it had also burned through. However, the fire did not spread further. The fire brigade put pressure on the house and carried out extinguishing activities. The Florianis also checked the burning material for possible embers. After about an hour they were able to complete their mission.
Fortunately, no one was injured. Material damage and the shock on Christmas Eve remain.
