Early Thursday morning, rescuers were alerted to an operation in the market town of Lustenau in Vorarlberg. A vehicle with two occupants left the two-lane road on Dornbirner Straße and ended up in the ditch completely damaged.
At around 3:40 a.m., a 23-year-old motorist was driving on Dornbirner Straße from Lustenau towards Dornbirn when he left the road due to microsleep and crashed into the guardrail.
The passenger tried to avoid steering in vain
His passenger desperately tried to counter-steer, but in vain. The car then ended up in the adjacent ditch.
The driver suffered minor injuries in the accident, but the passenger was unharmed, according to police. The car is a total loss.
