Suicide is one of the taboo subjects in our society. Statistics can shed light on the situation. But it is more important to show people suffering from depression that they are not alone.
Unfortunately, Carinthia is one of the top countries in Austria when it comes to suicides. The numbers have been declining since the 1980s, but more people still die this way than in traffic. “We cannot take the issue seriously enough,” emphasizes Beate Prettner, State Councilor of Health of Carinthia: “The long-term average is still around 110 cases. That is 110 suicides too many.” In Carinthia there are several contact points that are available 24 hours a day and can provide assistance.
