On Saturday morning at 5:27 a.m., the Gröbming and Stein an der Enns fire brigades responded to a traffic accident in which two people were trapped on Ennstalbundesstrasse. Near Gröbming, a company bus collided head-on with a Slovak car, with both drivers severely trapped in the vehicle.
The occupants had to be freed from the wreckage by the teams of FF Gröbming and FF Stein an der Enns using hydraulic rescue equipment – various cutters, spreaders and outriggers were used to save people. The 51-year-old driver could no longer be helped and died at the scene of the accident.
Two fire brigade doctors, the emergency medical team from Schladming, the crew of the Christophorus 14 and the Red Cross paramedics from Gröbming provided initial care to the seriously injured bus driver; a total of four doctors were deployed.
The patient was then flown by helicopter to UKH Salzburg. During the operation, which lasted almost two hours, the B 320 was completely closed, causing significant delays in arrival and departure traffic. The cause of the accident is being investigated by the executive branch.
