A suspected smuggler was arrested by the Tyrolean police in Erpfendorf on Saturday morning: as many as 13 Syrians were in the back of the man’s van. After a short escape, a suspect was arrested. But he denies the crime.
Shortly after 7 a.m., a Mercedes Vito with a Romanian license plate was pulled from traffic in the municipality of Erpfendorf (municipality of Kitzbühel). The officers were then shown a gruesome photo. There were thirteen suspected refugees crammed into the back of the vehicle. “These were taken to the police station and processed there in accordance with immigration law,” police manager Josef Feyersinger explained to the “Krone”. The people are said to be Syrian citizens.
Suspect denies crime
The driver of the car, which lightly hit the parked Porsche of a German holidaymaker in a hotel parking lot in Erpfendorf, tried to flee on foot. “We were able to arrest a suspect,” Feyersinger emphasizes. The man denies the crime, but police are confident they have caught the right person. The suspected smuggler’s origins are still being investigated.
