In 2023, approximately nine billion liters of fuel were consumed in Austria. This means that the trend of previous years has continued.
In 2022 this was about 9.24 billion liters and in 2019 about 10.54 billion liters, according to the market analysis of the Petroleum Industry Association (FVMI).
Last year, approximately 6.86 billion liters of fuel was diesel and 2.14 billion liters were gasoline. There was a 5.5 percent lower diesel consumption compared to a 7.8 percent higher gasoline consumption.
A decrease of 8.6 percent was recorded for domestic heating oil.
The industry now faces the challenge of realizing the transformation to a climate-neutral system, according to the FVMI.
