Kolbnitz mountain rescuers faced a demanding mission on New Year’s Eve: a German couple went on a hiking trip despite the bad weather forecast. They had to set up an emergency bivouac in heavy snow and wind.
The man (26) and his girlfriend (39) left on New Year’s Eve for a walk to the Reisseckhütte at 2,287 meters above sea level. However, in the area of the Mühldorfer Ochsenalm, bad weather conditions forced them to set up an emergency bivouac. As the snowfall and wind gusts became increasingly intense, the two hikers had to make an emergency call around three in the morning.
Mountain rescuers accompanied hikers
Six members of the Kolbnitz mountain rescue service and an Alpine police officer made their way through the heavy snow to the two Germans. They were able to reach the two hikers in distress shortly after 6:30 a.m. and guided them to Schoberbodenstrasse. From there we went into the valley with the mountain rescue vehicle. The couple was slightly hypothermic and exhausted, but otherwise unharmed.
