379 survived the inferno – expert: “We just witnessed a miracle here!”

Date:

A passenger plane carrying 367 passengers and 12 crew members suddenly burst into flames on Tuesday as it approached Haneda Airport in the Japanese capital Tokyo. The fact that all 379 passengers survived is a masterpiece for aviation expert Kurt Hofmann.

The Airbus A350 collided with a coast guard aircraft during landing. Videos show the massive explosion as it landed, sending the Japan Airlines plane burning down the runway. But miraculously, all occupants managed to exit the Airbus 350 via the emergency slides and escape the flames.

“We have just experienced a miracle here,” explains Austrian aviation expert Kurt Hofmann in an interview with “Krone”. “The way the crew rescued all the passengers from the plane is almost unbelievable. To be approved as a passenger aircraft, the evacuation must occur in 90 seconds or less with full passenger capacity. “It worked very well here.”

“Crew and passengers responded correctly”
The passengers also deserve a lot of respect: ‘The Japanese are known for adhering to instructions in a disciplined manner.’ Elsewhere, many passengers are said to have packed their hand luggage, causing the escape to turn into a catastrophe with many deaths. “In this case, both the crew and passengers responded appropriately.” The Coast Guard plane, which also caught fire, burned out within seconds. Five passengers were killed; the pilot survived with serious injuries.

In 2016, a similarly spectacular evacuation of a passenger plane took place in Dubai. An Emirates Boeing 777-300 was returning to Dubai from India when a fire broke out on the runway during landing. The evacuation took only 45 seconds at that time. All 282 passengers and 18 crew on board survived.
