The search for a missing ski tourer on the Tauplitzalm in the Styrian district of Liezen ended tragically. The 53-year-old from Graz could only be rescued dead in the early morning hours.
The 53-year-old from Graz left alone on Tuesday around 11 a.m. for a ski tour in the Dead Mountains. When he did not return as agreed, his son called 911 around 6:30 p.m.
The areas of the Großer Tragel, Rosskogel and Almkogel were immediately searched. The 53-year-old was found early Wednesday morning. Tragically, he could only be found dead.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is in full swing. It is currently known that the 53-year-old may have slipped on a snow field and suffered fatal injuries. The ski tourer was rescued with the help of the Libelle Steiermark police helicopter. The relatives were cared for by the crisis intervention team.

The Tauplitz and Bad Mitterndorf mountain rescue teams were involved in the operation with 35 personnel and an avalanche and search dog squadron, a crew of the Christophorus 14 emergency medical helicopter, a crew of the Libelle FLIR Salzburg police helicopter, a crew of the Libelle Steiermark police helicopter and two alpine police officers from the Liezen Alpine Task Force.
