He was only 17 years old when the accident occurred. Now the now adult Lungauer (18) has to go to criminal court. Because he drunkenly crashed his car into a cemetery wall. An 18-year-old died and two other teenagers were injured.

It was April 30, 2023 in Tamsweg, a Sunday around 4:30 am. After visiting a restaurant, a local man, who was only 17 years old, got behind the wheel of his car drunk. Three of his friends got on board. During the subsequent drive, the test driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed full force into a wall near the local cemetery. The 18-year-old who was behind the wheel died from serious injuries as a result of the accident. The two other passengers were injured, some seriously. During the accident, fire brigade volunteers also had to come out and use heavy equipment to rescue the injured.

At 80 km/h in the bend
Nine months after the tragedy, the Salzburg Public Prosecutor’s Office has now filed charges: on suspicion of murder by gross negligence and bodily harm by gross negligence, as authority spokeswoman Elena Haslinger confirmed. The charges are based on a report by accident expert Gerhard Kronreif. The now adult defendant therefore acted completely irresponsibly: on the one hand, he had an alcohol content of 1.7 per mille in his blood. On the other hand, he was driving much too fast: in the ultimately fatal right turn before the accident, the driver was driving more than 80 km/h, while the local speed limit was 30 km/h. . And: The 18-year-old who died in the accident was not wearing a seat belt.
