An accidental discovery with consequences: a twelve-year-old boy set off a fireworks display in his own garden that had been discovered the day before in Wiener Neustadt. It exploded in his hand and he is now threatened with a partial amputation of a finger.
The twelve-year-old found the fireworks with a friend in a park on Tuesday and took them home. The next day he wanted to set it on fire in the garden. But the fireworks, whose origin is still unknown, exploded in the boy’s hand.
The father, who was in the house at the time, heard the loud bang and immediately ran outside and started the rescue chain. The twelve-year-old was taken to hospital by emergency services. According to information from Krone, he is at risk of having a finger on his left hand partially amputated.
Just on New Year’s Eve, a man of the same age in Wiener Neustadt was also seriously injured when he cleaned up a used fireworks that exploded in his hand. The boy had to be treated in hospital due to injuries to his arm, face and stomach.
