A box truck loaded with 84 boxes of fireworks stopped on the A4 in Vienna on Wednesday. The explosive material, which weighed a total of 260 kilograms, was completely unsecured. In addition, the vehicle itself also showed significant defects. The rolling bomb was immediately withdrawn from circulation.
Around 11 a.m., officers from the dangerous goods control unit of the Vienna State Transport became aware of the box truck driving out of the city on the A4 and stopped the driver.
Several technical defects were discovered during the inspection. For example, the suspension on the rear axle was broken. Because this presented an immediate danger, the license plates were removed from the vehicle.
When the officers subsequently checked the loading of the box truck, they discovered the unsecured boxes full of explosive material.
