Several Ukrainian and Latvian television channels broadcast parts of the military parade from Moscow’s Red Square after a hacker attack. In Ukraine, the media groups Star Light Media and Inter, public television and the channels Dym and Apostrophe-TV were affected, the media portal “Detektor Media” wrote on Thursday.
In Latvia, the internet and TV operator Balticom was hit, according to head of media supervision Ivars Abolins.
The attack started just in time for the parade
Accordingly, the first hacker attack on the Ukrainian media began right at the beginning of the military parade. Authorities in Kiev said the satellite signal was disrupted and the channels switched to another type of transmission after a short time. However, during the day there were further hacker attacks from Russia.
Authorities have launched an investigation. Ukraine, which has been waging a war of aggression for more than two years under the leadership of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, has fundamentally banned the broadcast of Russian programs.
Authorities in Latvia are also investigating. According to initial findings, the hackers did not attack Balticom’s broadcast infrastructure, but rather a foreign partner company of the company responsible for the broadcast content that Balticom broadcasts.
