Discovered during transport – scary find: 61 tarantulas in toy packaging

What a scary find: During a random check at a parcel distribution center in Peggau, delivery people discovered 61 tarantulas.

For the employees of a parcel distribution center in the Styrian market town of Peggau, the horror of many people has become reality: the delivery employees were amazed when they opened an alleged toy package during a routine check on Wednesday evening – and there were no dolls, wooden building blocks or cars, but 61 tarantulas found! The package was just randomly examined, no one expected such a furry find.

The venomous creepy-crawlies were all professionally packaged and still alive. The horror package with a breeder’s Burgenland return address should have gone to Germany originally.

After their discovery, the tarantulas were handed over to the Styrian Reptile and Amphibian Society. “I was contacted by the state alert center and collected the animals that night,” confirms chairman Werner Stangl. “There were some large spiders and 50 spiders about 1 centimeter long. It is a bit reprehensible to send animals across the land in such a veiled way,” said Stangl, who now cares for the caterpillars.

The further whereabouts of the spiders are currently being elucidated. A complaint will be made against the breeder.
