Cross-country, on narrow paths or straight through city centers: if you want to escape the traffic jam on the Tauernautobahn (A10), look for the wildest alternative routes. The residents of Tennengau have finally had enough! On Friday there will be a demonstration against the traffic chaos in Golling – the whole place will be closed for two hours…
Single lane, narrow and actually only known to the locals. The Riedlweg runs from Hallein to Adnet and Bad Vigaun – and is usually a rarely used road. Now everything is different: “Sometimes it takes half an hour to drive a kilometer,” moans resident Sigrid Rettenbacher.
Why? Countless holidaymakers use the Riedlweg on the recommendation of their navigation equipment as an alternative route to the traffic jams on the Tauern motorway. The tunnel construction site between Golling and Werfen leads to enormous traffic problems almost every day, the “Krone” reports.
“There are no alternative options at all on the Riedlweg. When everything stands still, the holiday cars even drive over the farmers’ fields,” says Rettenbacher. Difficult situations often arise. And: “Emergency vehicles would certainly not be able to get through in the worst case.”
The Riedlweg is just one of many negative examples in the current traffic jam dilemma. In Hallein, for example, holidaymakers often want to take a shorter route with their car via the Ahauserweg near Interspar. And they roll in a column through the middle of a residential area.
Similar scenes also take place in Kuchl and Golling. “There is hardly a street that is not busy. The cars even drive on the path at Egelsee,” says pharmacist Franziska Wagner from Gollingen.
Golling city center is closed
As reported, the entrepreneur and chairman of the interest group Golling (IG) and her colleagues organized a demonstration against the traffic jam madness in Tennengau on Friday. From 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Golling city center will remain closed via two entrances.
Wagner: “We want to send a loud signal.”
