The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Friday 36 ‘destroyed and intercepted’ drones over the Crimean peninsula. A Ukrainian attack on the port city of Sevastopol had already been repulsed the day before. The rockets fired are said to have injured at least one person.
Parts of it fell in inhabited areas, Russian Governor Mikhail Razwoyaev said. Sevastopol is the homeport of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. The Crimean Peninsula, which was annexed by Russia in 2014, is important to the Russian military both militarily and logistically. The Ukrainian army regularly attacks them with missiles and drones.
The city of Belgorod in the Russian border region of the same name was also attacked again late on Thursday. At least two people were injured, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said. Photos of damaged cars in the city were published on Telegram. Citizens were given the opportunity to evacuate. They could be housed “warmly and safely” in places further from the border, the report said.
The administration advises to tape up windows
The Belgorod city council also advised residents to tape up their windows to protect themselves from Ukrainian attacks. This is a good way to prevent the glass from cracking due to pressure waves.
The Russian army attacked the Ukrainian capital Kiev with drones on Friday evening. According to Ukrainian information, 21 of the 29 combat drones were intercepted. There are also reported attacks on the central Ukrainian region of Kirovograd and Kherson in the south (see video above).
Missiles from North Korea?
The Russian military is said to have used missiles from North Korea in its latest air strikes. The Ukrainian air force said it had “no information” about the use of such missiles. Experts should investigate whether this corresponds to the facts or not, said spokesperson Yuri Ignat.
Fighting between Ukraine and Russia had recently intensified. The Russian army attacked Ukrainian cities en masse at the turn of the year, killing sixty people. The war opponent responded last Saturday with an attack on Belgorod that killed 25 people.
