More than 400 people from Tennengau protested against the traffic columns in local areas from Hallein to Golling. The resentment is primarily directed against State Councilor for Transport, Stefan Schnöll, of the ÖVP. The list of requirements is long.
A region is on the barricades – and loud: 400 people from Tennengau gathered in the center of Golling on Friday around 2 p.m. to protest what they considered an intolerable traffic situation. “I never thought I would be at a demo. Now it’s me,” says top restaurateur Andreas Döllerer. The demonstration formed in front of his restaurant and left on a pilgrimage towards Kuchl.
Neighbors, entrepreneurs and retirees are fed up: “During the holiday period we have always had traffic jams,” explains retiree Josef Seidl. “But what has happened in recent months is no longer possible.” Due to the construction site of the A10 tunnel and the traffic jams, tourists are also trying to gain minutes at the exits in Tennengau on country and field roads. The result: miles of traffic jams and delays from Golling to Hallein.
Keyword Hallein: After the opening speech of demo organizer Franziska Wagner (“If something doesn’t happen soon, Golling will really go under”), after Golling’s leader Peter Harlander, Alexander Stangassinger (SPÖ) from Hallein also took the megaphone. After explaining that this traffic problem extends far beyond all party lines, there was laughter and applause from his side: “Why do we have a transport district councilor Schnöll?” muttered the mayor of Salzburg’s second-largest city.
A battle must be waged against highway refugees
The “highway refugees” referred to in the petition are clogging the streets, making daily shopping a living hell and hindering emergency vehicles. Neighbors fear they will be left alone in an emergency. How should the traffic jam end? “Now that the block processing is already taking place at Walserberg, there is a suspension of the vignette obligation,” says Wagner. In addition, navigation devices may no longer offer secret routes in Tennengau as alternative routes. According to the tenor of the demonstration, these demands will be submitted to a transport summit with the state government.
