There is still deep disgust in the Burgenland community of Sauerbrunn (Mattersburg district). On Friday afternoon there was probably a heated argument between a German (55) and his wife. What followed was a machete attack that resulted in death, when a police officer shot the attacker. An autopsy has now been ordered on the dead man.
The case was also intensively investigated on Saturday. Parallel to the prosecutor’s investigation, internal investigations by the Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department are underway.

It must become clear, among other things, how many shots were fired during the incident and how many service weapons were used.

The German national got into an argument with his wife on Friday afternoon. When emergency services arrived at the couple’s home, the 55-year-old grabbed a machete and attacked his wife. Then two law enforcement officers alerted. One of the police officers was injured in the attack; his protective equipment could have prevented worse.
