Residents in the Donaustadt district of Vienna were terrified by gunshots on Thursday morning. The result was a large-scale operation by the executive branch. The alleged shooter has been caught – the suspect, a 21-year-old, is not a blank slate.
Rather, he is a repeat offender who apparently has learned little from the past. Because the suspect had shot in public before and was therefore the target of the police.
Large-scale police presence due to ‘unknown risk situation’
This was also the case on Thursday morning around 8:30 am when he again used a pistol and fired several times. A large contingent of troops had been ordered to the area of operations “because of the unknown risk situation,” the executive said.
Officials were able to stop the suspect and, during the search, secure the weapon and ammunition that he should not have had. Because the 21-year-old has been banned from guns since the last trigger-happy act.
“Photography preference”
When questioned, he admitted to having fired the shots, his reason being: a love of shooting. The suspect has been registered.
